Tree Health Care

Essentials for Growth

Urban trees live in harsh conditions require special care. The soil is often negatively impacted, lacking the required nutrients, environmental condition, organic matter and necessary micro and macro flora and fauna for optimal growth
Protect your trees from the impact of human activities!

These seven healthy tree care solutions are at the root of King Tree Health Program:

1. Nutrient/Soil management

Plant health is greatly dependent upon the amount of organic matter available. Healthy soil is the key to providing the micro and macro-nutrients necessary for healthy growth. Fertilizing can increase the proliferation of insects and disease. Fertilizer is a salt – this can be disruptive to living organisms/tissue. Fertilizer is often misused and should be used with the advice of a professional.

2. Aeration/Ventilation

Roots are like lungs/living cells. Soils must have adequate air pore space for root respiration. Air movement in and around plants is crucial.

3. Water

Above all else H2O in excess or deficient is a crucial observation to analyze.

4. Mulching

This can achieve many of the plant health objectives in one practice plus much more. The basis of all life is organic matter. Remember to consider the species of tree, soil conditions, pH etc. before applying. Like fertilizing phytotoxicity and serious issues can occur.

5. Ensure an adequate root zone

Protect and provide barriers for root zones now and the future.

6. Photosynthesis

A lack of sun or high exposure is another crucial observation to analyze.

7. Temperature

Pplant hardiness, local and micro climates should thoughtfully be considered.

We do not advocate the use of chemicals in any horticulture practice.

We avoid selling costly fertilizing programs to our customers. Through the above horticulture practices, you will encourage your trees and plants to become self- sufficient.

SOIL SCIENCE + NATIVE TREES PLANTING = CONSERVATION + PESTICIDE AND FERTILIZER FREE

These simple ideas rely less on our precious natural resources.

Tree Care Seasons

Soil/Nutrient Management

This should be kept in mind for the spring or fall, when tree roots are actively growing

Mulch

This should be kept in mind for the spring or fall, when tree roots are actively growing

Water

All plants especially evergreens in the fall to avoid winter burn. Remember to water during drought.

Provide nutrients and a good rooting environment through mulching.

Aeration

You can do this anytime.

Pruning

Pruning promotes more efficient nutrient transport.

Environment Health Care

1. Promote planting of flowering plants for pollinators

2. Retaining dead trees, limbs and cavities for cavity nesting birds and mammals as well as many other flora and fauna that utilize dead trees
3. Reduce or stop intense turf/mown areas to protect soils and promote healthier environment especially around waterways
4. Planting for shelter and nesting
5. Retaining or adding water features
6. Create rock and brush features for flora and fauna i.e. snake, salamander etc.
7. Invasive species management
